Conclusion: "The majority of stamp collectors have traditionally pursued the hobby outside formal associations – just as I did in my youth together with my friends. Today, this independent community of collectors is visible on online marketplaces and social media platforms. What has changed is that associations would like to attract these collectors as members in order to secure their own continuity. Although the associations have certainly acted as they see fit, the normative and tradition-based culture of these organizations is unlikely to appeal to outsiders. Likewise, initiatives such as school-based programs or other renewal experiments are unlikely to reverse the downward trend of associations — partly due to limited resources and partly because of the aforementioned cultural gap.
